The problem
Assessments that go missing
The risk assessment was done on paper or in a Word template. Two years on, nobody can find the file when it is asked for.
Everyone scores differently
One manager treats an overseas client as high risk and another does not, so the firm's approach depends on who did the work.
No view across the practice
There is no way to answer a simple question: which of our clients are high risk, and have they all been verified?

Why it matters for UK accountancy practices
The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 require a risk-based approach to client due diligence. In practice that means assessing the risk each client presents, doing proportionate due diligence and keeping records of what you did.
Accountancy firms are supervised for AML either by HMRC or by a professional body such as ICAEW, ACCA or AAT. When a supervisor reviews a file, the question is rarely whether the firm thought about risk; it is whether the assessment was recorded and can be produced.
Remindoo helps a practice run and retain client-level risk assessments consistently. It supports your procedures rather than replacing them: the firm's own judgement, its firm-wide risk assessment and its MLRO's decisions remain the firm's responsibility.

Frequently asked questions
UK accountancy firms in the regulated sector must take a risk-based approach to client due diligence under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, which means assessing the risk each client presents. How you apply that is a matter for your firm's own procedures and your supervisor's guidance.
In Remindoo the questionnaire covers matters such as a history of errors in tax returns, a lack of proof of address, overseas clients, cash-based businesses, complex group structures and unverified identity. Each is answered with a simple Yes or No during onboarding.
Remindoo classifies the client's AML risk level from the answers you give to the questionnaire. The classification is there to support your assessment consistently across the practice; the professional judgement about the client remains your firm's.
On the client profile, in the Risk Assessment & AML section. It can be reviewed at any time after onboarding, so the record stays with the client rather than in a separate document that has to be located when it is needed.
Yes. An AML quick overview shows a client's risk and verification status, and you can switch on the AML Risk Level column on the Clients list to see risk across the practice. Combined with filters, that gives you a working view of where attention is needed.
No. Remindoo supports client-level risk assessment. Your firm-wide risk assessment, policies, controls and procedures remain your own responsibility, as does the professional judgement applied to each client and any reporting decisions your MLRO makes.

Every deadline. Every client. One system.
Start with the workflows that cause the most chasing, then bring leads, AML, proposals and clients into the same calm operating system.
Why recording AML checks properly matters
UK accountants must follow the Money Laundering Regulations and their supervisor's guidance. If a check is not recorded, supervisors will generally treat it as not done.
Evidence for your supervisor
Dated ID checks and risk assessments on each client file are what a supervisor asks to see during a review.
Consistent risk scoring
A standard risk assessment means every client is judged the same way, whoever onboarded them.
Ongoing monitoring
Reminders for periodic reviews help keep checks current rather than done once and forgotten.
Faster onboarding
Built-in digital ID and AML checks in Remindoo reduce back-and-forth with new clients.
Practical tips from UK practice
- Complete identity checks and a risk assessment before starting chargeable work.
- Set review dates by risk level, with higher-risk clients reviewed more often.
- Record the reason for each risk rating, not just the rating.
- Check your supervisor's current guidance, as requirements can change.
