HMRC Authorisation and Tax Liabilities
Built for UK accountants, bookkeepers and growing accountancy practices.
How it works
Acting for a client with HMRC starts with agent authorisation, and good service depends on knowing what the client owes. Remindoo brings both into the client record. For each service, HMRC Client Authorisation shows the current status, for example "Agent is not Authorised", the request number and the date requested. You choose the authorisation type: MTD-IT for the current REST flow, or XML for the previous integration flow. Then you send the request. With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax now live for sole traders and landlords over the income threshold, keeping MTD authorisation organised per client is essential. You don't need to open the profile: the agent authorisation icon in the client list shows each service, such as Personal Tax Return (MTD / XML) and VAT (MTD), with its status and a Send auth request button. For a practice-wide view, HMRC Client Authorisation Status lists clients under Authorised, Pending and Unauthorised. Once authorised, the Tax Liabilities view for Self Assessment shows Total Balance, Next Filing Deadline and Next Payment Deadline. Open and completed periods are listed with filing and payment status, tax amount, overpayments, surcharges, interest, penalties, adjustments and subtotals, and the whole view can be exported.

Why a single client record matters
When client details, deadlines, documents and conversations are spread across inboxes and spreadsheets, time goes on searching instead of on client work.
One version of the truth
Everyone sees the same services, contacts, deadlines and notes for each client.
Accurate deadlines
Companies House sync brings in company details and filing dates, reducing manual errors.
Better client service
A full timeline means anyone can answer a client question with the history in front of them.
Secure document sharing
A client portal is safer than sending financial documents as email attachments.
Practical tips from UK practice
- Import companies from Companies House rather than typing details by hand.
- Record every service a client takes, so recurring work is created automatically.
- Add a short note after every important client call.
- Ask clients to upload documents through the portal rather than by email.
