What MLRO means
Every supervised firm must appoint a nominated officer, commonly called the MLRO. Staff report suspicion internally to them, and they decide whether to submit a Suspicious Activity Report.
In a sole practice the MLRO is usually the principal. In a larger firm the role is often held alongside a compliance or MLCO (Money Laundering Compliance Officer) role responsible for the policy itself.
