What SAR means
Where you have knowledge or suspicion, the nominated officer submits a SAR to the National Crime Agency. Where you need to continue acting on a transaction, that may require a Defence Against Money Laundering request.
Tipping off the client that a report has been made is a criminal offence, so the internal handling of a SAR needs to be tightly controlled and recorded separately from general client notes.
