Tax, HMRC & agent access
In short: HMRC's permission for a firm to act for a client on a specified tax.
Authorisation can be granted by the digital handshake, by form 64-8, or through a client's own business tax account. Each tax needs its own authorisation, and each expires if the invitation is not accepted in time.
Authorisations do not transfer between practices. When a client moves, the new agent requests authorisation and the previous one is typically displaced for that tax.
Chasing authorisation is one of the most common onboarding bottlenecks, and one of the easiest to automate reminders for.
