Time Recording on Tasks for Accountants
Knowing how long work really takes helps you price fees and plan capacity. Remindoo lets your team record time directly against tasks, so time is linked to the client and service it belongs to.
Built for UK accountants, bookkeepers and growing accountancy practices.

How it works
Accurate time records are the basis of fair fees, realistic budgets and honest capacity planning. Remindoo records time where the work happens: on each subtask. Start the timer when you begin a phase such as Chasing Information, stop it when you finish, and the time is logged against that subtask and added to the task total shown in the header. Because each job created from a service carries an estimated time (for example 8 hours for Accounts - Year End + CT600), you can compare actual time with the budget and spot jobs that are running over. Every task also has a Global Time Logs view, opened from the timer in the task list. It lists each log with the Subtask, Start Time, End Time, Duration and Log by, so a manager can see who did what, when and for how long. For practices that bill by the hour or review recovery rates, this separates billable work from internal time and gives clear evidence when a client queries a fee. For fixed-fee work, it shows which phases take the most hours.
Global time logs
Click a task's timer to see every log: subtask, start and end time, duration and who logged it.
What you can see
- "Global Time Logs for Year-end accounts prep FY26" title.
- Description: "View all the timer logs created on this task."
- Subtask column showing which phase the time was logged against.
- Start Time and End Time columns.
- Duration and Log by columns.
Why it matters: A complete per-task time record supports billing, recovery analysis and fee reviews.

Record time where the work happens
- Start and stop a timer on a task
- Time is linked to the task's client and service
- Mark tasks as billable where relevant
Compare with estimates
Service templates can hold estimated hours. Recorded time can be reviewed in the dashboard's timesheet and capacity planning views.
Use it for fee reviews
Seeing recorded time by client and service helps partners spot work that regularly takes longer than its fee allows.
Example: repricing a bookkeeping client
- The monthly bookkeeping service is estimated at 3 hours.
- Recorded time on the last six tasks averages over 5 hours.
- The partner uses this to review the client's fee at renewal.
Illustrative example, adapt it to your own practice's process.
Frequently asked questions

Recorded time helps with fee reviews and capacity. Invoicing is handled separately in Remindoo's invoice module.
Click the task's timer in the task list to open Global Time Logs, which shows subtask, start time, end time, duration and who logged it.
Both. Each subtask has its own timer, and the task shows the total and a full log.

Why recording time matters in an accountancy practice
Time is the main cost in every accounting firm. Without recorded time you are guessing whether a fixed fee is profitable, whether a client is taking more work than agreed, or whether a team member is overloaded.
Price services with evidence
Comparing recorded time with the fee for a year-end, VAT return or payroll run shows which clients and services are under-priced before renewal.
Spot scope creep early
When time on a client keeps rising, you can raise it with the client or send an updated proposal rather than absorbing the cost.
Plan capacity realistically
Estimated time against actual time tells managers how much work a person can really take in a busy January or accounts season.
Support fair reviews
Time linked to tasks and clients gives an objective view of workload, rather than relying on who seems busiest.
Practical tips from UK practice
- Start the timer on the task itself, so time is linked to the right client and service automatically.
- Set estimated hours in service templates, then compare them with recorded time each quarter.
- Review the most over-running services before you send renewal proposals or engagement letters.
- Agree as a team which work counts as client time and which is internal, so the numbers are comparable.
